ABOUT UC SANTA CRUZ

UC Santa Cruz is a public university like no other in California, combining the experience of a small, liberal arts college with the depth and rigor of a major research university. It's known as an unconventional place where innovation and experimentation are part of the campus's DNA. That playful, bold spirit still thrives today, all on a campus renowned as among the most beautiful in the world.

ABOUT THE PREMED POSTBACCALAUREATE PROGRAM

Designed for adult learners who are passionate about achieving a career in health care, the UCSC Extension Silicon Valley Premed Postbaccalaureate Program is an accelerated program for students with bachelor's degrees to complete courses they need to pursue an education in most medical and other pre-health programs. Students receive intensive guidance, coaching, and support for successful admission into a medical/health profession program and to embark on medical careers.

The UCSC Premed Postbacc program is taught through UCSC Silicon Valley Extension and the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences. It is a pilot project focusing on high-demand courses, the first step of building out a premed certificate program, followed by expanded offerings to support nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, and other health professionals.

We are building a more equitable community within the greater Santa Cruz, Monterey Bay, and South San Jose areas by recruiting students from underrepresented communities to ultimately improve the health status of people who live in our region.

The pool will remain in place for one calendar year. Those interested in remaining in the pool must reapply after that. Appointments are offered on a course-by-course basis, and appointment length is based on course section schedule(s). Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.
