Certificates Frequently Asked Question

What's new in the ECE certificate programs?

Updated: May 5, 2021

We've recently revised our Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate programs. Here's what's new:

Early Childhood Education certificate program updates

The 35-unit Early Childhood Education certificate program has been dissolved and its courses have been divided into two new certificates that align perfectly with the permit levels defined by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).

  • Early Childhood Education Associate Teacher certificate (20 units) aligns with the CTC Child Development Associate Teacher Permit requirement.
  • The Early Childhood Education Advanced Teacher certificate (17 units) aligns with the CTC Child Development Teacher Permit requirement.

ECE Supervision and Administration certificate program updates

The ECE Supervision and Administration certificate has a new name and continues to align with the CTC Child Development Site Supervisor Permit requirement. The program formerly required six to nine courses or 18 units; it now requires four required courses or 20 units.
