MARYAM MOAREFIAN, Ph.D., contributes to neuroscience and AI research as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UC Santa Cruz Genomics Institute. She focuses on brain on a chip technology, stem cell differentiation, and electrophysiology data analysis, supported by expertise in microfluidics, longitudinal imaging, and multielectrode arrays fabrication. At UC Santa Cruz, she collaborates with the multidisciplinary Braingeneers research group to fabricate integrated microfluidics and multi-electrode arrays for precise electrophysiology measurements, driving advancements in brain organoid technology and AI integration. Committed to pushing scientific boundaries, she aims to foster innovation that bridges biology and engineering while contributing diverse perspectives to our shared goals. She earned a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University. She is the author and co-author of dozens of scientific papers. Outside of teaching, her work as a microfabrication engineer and participation in scientific outreach, she mentors students, and volunteers in clinical settings to keep connected to both cutting-edge technology and real-world healthcare.
