Course Description
Jumpstart your career in engineering through additive manufacturing. This course will give you cutting edge knowledge and skills in the rapidly evolving field of additive manufacturing (also known as 3D printing).
This course prepares the next generation of engineers and designers to leverage the transformative potential of additive manufacturing technology through practical software training and comprehensive theoretical instruction. You'll learn the fundamental processes and software skills, with hands-on learning of a specific AM software package you can leverage to attain internships or early career positions in the field.
Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of the course, you should be able to
- Describe each of the fundamental AM technologies along with their benefits and features and associated materials.
- Apply DfAM principles to optimize part design taking advantage of the design freedom allowed by AM.
- Learn the techniques to slice, orient, and submit a file for 3D printing.
- Present design optimization and 3D print project as a team.
- Learn software required for AM and be functional in at least one software package required for AM.
Additional Information
This course is offered in partnership with UC Merced PACE.
Please note that students must enroll at least one week before the course start date to allow time for shipping of the 3D printer that is included in the course cost.
