About

JOHN TAT, Ph.D., is a translational medicine specialist with experience spanning oncology, toxicology, pulmonology, and drug development. He has extensive experience teaching and mentoring traditional, non-traditional, and career-changing students preparing for medical school, including positions at UC San Diego, San Diego State University, and The Scripps Research Institute. He earned a double baccalaureate in physiology and neuroscience and history from UC San Diego and a doctorate in molecular medicine from The Scripps Research Institute. He is deeply familiar with the academic rigor and expectations of medical training, including mastery of core biomedical concepts, MCAT-level reasoning, and the development of clinical and scientific thinking skills. His pedagogy is built on the 2011 AAAS Vision and Change’s challenge to teach biomedical science in ways that emphasize problem-solving, data interpretation, and applying scientific principles to medically relevant scenarios. His goal is to help post-baccalaureate pre-med students build the intellectual foundation, confidence, and discipline needed to successfully apply to medical school.
