High School Workshop and Seminar Series

Course Description

This six-week workshop and seminar series supports motivated High School Heath Pathways Summer Academy students through a structured sequence of seminars and hands-on workshops that strengthen readiness for college and healthcare careers. The course meets five times per week and is structured as an immersive six-week experience that integrates mentorship, healthcare career exploration, and applied skill development. Throughout the program, students engage in a combination of workshops and seminar-style sessions focused on college preparation, professional development, public health advocacy, and pathways into medicine. Topics include academic skill-building, navigating the transition to higher education, and networking, alongside experiential learning opportunities such as hands-on clinical skills, interactive case studies, and a field-based learning experience. Students also learn directly from physicians, medical students, and public health professionals, gaining insight into diverse career paths, healthcare systems, and strategies for long-term success while building meaningful mentorship connections.

Learning Outcomes

• Analyze health-related scenarios using concepts of public health, health equity, and social determinants of health.

Notes

This course is restricted to enrolled high school students with permission to enroll. All Seminar Series and Workshop sessions are held in-person. Attendance is mandatory to fully benefit from discussions, hands-on activities, and collaboration.
