Anticipatory Thinking

October 14, 2025 | 5:30pm - 7:30pm

Perhaps one of the most under-utilized leadership skills, but arguably one of increasing urgency is Anticipatory Thinking. Different than Strategic Thinking, this particular capability is one which helps leaders to see what others don't see, to imagine how unexpected events might affect plans and strategies, and create readiness and adaptive mindsets for what might happen. In this session, we will explore this increasingly important skill, discuss ways it can be used, and recommend ways to strengthen it.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn the difference between Anticipatory Thinking and Strategic Thinking.
  • Contrast the business outcomes of companies that have leveraged Anticipatory Thinking versus some that have relied on more Conventional Thinking.
  • Practice the skill of Anticipation using multiple time horizons.
  • Compare the skill sets of Conventional Leaders versus Anticipatory Leaders.
  • Learn how to distinguish Hard Trends from Soft Trends and how each influences decision making.
