JOHN H. BAILEY, Ph.D., has been working at the intersection of people and technology for over 30 years. He has led UX research and design functions at multiple companies, including IBM, CA Technologies, Juniper Networks, and Pulse Secure. He believes that the value of great design, informed by user research-driven insights and validation, is in discovering and meeting previously unmet needs and in transforming the mundane, difficult, or useless into something amazing. His IBM design teams have won five external design awards, including a Red Dot Design Award, and several IBM internal awards. He earned a doctorate in Human Factors Psychology, specializing in Human Computer Interaction, from the University of Central Florida. His accomplishments include authoring nine U.S. patents and co-authoring over two dozen papers and a book, Taming Information Technology: Lessons from Studies of System Administrators (Oxford University Press, 2012).
