About

HAMED MOUSEGHY, MD, is a biology educator dedicated to supporting premedical and postbaccalaureate students as they navigate the academic and personal challenges of pursuing careers in medicine and the health sciences. He teaches cell and molecular biology in the UC Santa Cruz Premed Postbacc program through UCSC Extension and has extensive experience mentoring students in core biological concepts and long-term academic planning. 

With training as a physician and a background that integrates biology, public health, and health policy, Dr. Mouseghy emphasizes understanding over memorization and helps students connect foundational science to clinical and real-world applications. His teaching approach focuses on clarity, confidence-building, and developing strong scientific reasoning skills essential for success in advanced coursework and professional programs.

He works closely with students from diverse and nontraditional backgrounds and is deeply committed to mentorship, believing that with the right guidance, structure, and encouragement, students can thrive in rigorous premedical pathways. At UCSC Extension, he is excited to support students as they build both competence and confidence on their path toward medical and health-related careers.

This course is offered in an online synchronous format. Students are required to log in through Canvas at the scheduled start time and participate via Zoom for the duration of each meeting.

Weeks 1-10 will consist of three hours of lecture and one hour of discussion per week. Information regarding the final week and exam will be provided by the instructor. Textbook requirements will also be announced by the instructor.
