Course Description

Welcome to our immersive Education Innovation workshop series. Join master educators to explore the most current, evidence-based best-practices to keep your knowledge and skills up to date and to strengthen your ability to support every student. Each session is led by an expert in the field with real world experience, who will guide you through the material and help you apply it immediately to your work.

Designed for educators who are new to structured numeracy, this special 2-day online seminar includes the first two foundational math seminars in the m●sense professional development series, preparing educators to continue on to the other math content courses that follow. Learn about the research and pedagogy behind a structured numeracy methodology, in addition to the powerful 9Lines(C) strategy for learning and retaining the multiplication facts and much more!

Day 1: An Introduction to m●sense

Explore the fundamentals of teaching math using a structured, multisensory and developmentally appropriate approach.

Day 2: Developing Symbol Imaging

Learn strategies to build symbol imaging to support the acquisition of math facts and fluency in their many applications, including multi-digit multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, percents and more!

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of the workshop, you should be able to:

• Identify the components of a structured numeracy program and the four phases of the development of a concrete-to-abstract sequence.
• Explain the research supporting the effectiveness of a structured numeracy approach to teaching.
• Demonstrate the 9 Lines fact acquisition strategy in small group, whole-class, or one-on-one instructional settings.
