About UC Santa Cruz Healthcare Pathways

Offered through UCSC Silicon Valley Extension, UC Santa Cruz Healthcare Pathways provides academic preparation, advising, MCAT prep, and professional development for students pursuing medical and allied health professions.

Our offerings include structured Premed Postbacc cohort pathways in Silicon Valley and the Central Coast, a flexible Pre-Health DIY pathway for individual course support, and high school summer exploration programs. Together, we are building a more equitable healthcare workforce by preparing diverse, dedicated learners for successful health careers.
 

Position overview

Position: Part-Time / Contract Instructor (Online, In-Person, or Hybrid)

Compensation: $4,000 – $5,000 flat fee per course

Status: Open continuously; applications reviewed as program needs arise
 

 

Role and responsibilities

Instructors teach University of California science courses on a quarter system. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Teaching and curriculum: Prepare, deliver, and continuously refine course syllabi, assessments, and learning materials aligned with program learning outcomes and student feedback.
  • Inclusive instruction: Employ culturally congruent, accessible teaching strategies to support non-native English speakers and students with academic accommodations.
  • Classroom tech and LMS: Utilize Canvas as the primary learning platform to host course content, engage students, and manage grades.
  • Administrative operations: Submit final grades and required documentation promptly, complete mandatory UC training, and maintain regular communication with students and staff via your assigned UCSC email.
     

Qualifications

Required

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in a relevant field at the time of application
  • College-level teaching or tutoring experience

Preferred

  • MD or DO from an accredited U.S. institution
  • 4+ years of professional or academic experience
  • Experience with online, hybrid, or remote teaching and instructional content development
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (Canvas) and digital collaboration tools (Zoom, Google Workspace, MS Office)
  • Strong organizational, presentation, and complex-concept communication skills
     

Compensation and appointments

  • Appointments are offered on a course-by-course contract basis ($4,000 – $5,000 per course).
  • Appointment length varies by course schedule, with potential renewal based on performance, program need, and funding.
