The software-defined data center based on virtualization technology has become a fundamental part of the IT infrastructure in the enterprise. It is critical for organizations to manage the data center efficiently and to scale it to meet the needs of a growing business. This course will help you learn how to configure and maintain a vSphere 6 virtual infrastructure through instructions and hands-on labs.
The course examines various advanced vSphere features and controls that enable the optimization and scalability of a virtual infrastructure, including trade-offs between features and where they are most effective. The online lab will provide you with your own ESXi host, vCenter Server, and SAN storage to perform lab exercises. This course is based on ESXi 6.0 and vCenter Server 6.0.
You will learn how to secure the ESXi host and establish vSphere access controls, use the vSphere command line interface and PowerCLI, configure advanced features on the distributed switch, and monitor networking, storage, memory, and CPU activity. The course uses a troubleshooting methodology to address networking, storage, memory, and CPU performance problems. Lab activities also cover the use of the vSphere Management Assistant, backup and restore of the distributed switch, and policy based storage. You will also learn about host profiles and Auto Deploy.
This course helps you prepare for the VMware Certified Professional 6–Data Center Virtualization (VCP6-DCV) exam. It satisfies the VCP6-DCV certification course requirement.
- vSphere security
- VMware management resources
- Performance in a virtualized environment
- Network scalability and optimization
- Storage scalability and optimization
- CPU and memory optimization
- Virtual machine and cluster optimization
- Host and management scalability
Note(s): Lab access and student guide e-text will be available for purchase through the VMware Webstore. See Section Description for details. Students completing the course will receive a voucher discount off the price of the VCP6-DCV exam from VMware. The online lab allows access up to six months, while the course itself lasts 9 to 11 weeks.
Skills Needed: The course is designed for experienced VMware vSphere users. You should have taken either the “VMware vSphere: Configuration and Management” [5.5 or 6.0] course or the “VMware vSphere: Fast Track” course , or have equivalent knowledge and administration experience with ESXi and vCenter Server. Experience working with the command line prompt is recommended.
