Program Objectives
After earning the Professional Award in Mobile Application Development, you can develop the skills to:

•  Create simple iOS native applications for iPhone and iPad
•  Develop native Android applications using Java
•  Create an engaging user interface prototype for a mobile app or the Web
•  Differentiate between mobile payment technologies such as Near Field Communication, secure element, Host Card Emulation, Bluetooth, QR codes, tokens and eWallets
•  Create an effective user interface that incorporates wearable technology


Program Format
UCSC Extension’s Mobile Application Development courses are offered at UC Santa Cruz Silicon Valley Campus, a beautiful facility located on the corner of Scott and Bowers in Santa Clara. Many of our courses are available online. Choose courses according to your interest.

Award Requirements
To obtain the Professional Award in Mobile Application Development, you must successfully complete 8 units with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Units taken can also be applied toward UCSC approved certificates. They must meet individual certificate requirements. Only courses taken since July 1, 2013 can be applied toward the award.

The rough cost of the User Experience and Web Design certificate is estimated at $5,000.

Declaring Candidacy

If you intend to pursue a certificate, declaring candidacy establishes program requirements early in your studies, so any subsequent curriculum changes do not affect your progress. It does not limit what courses you can take; and it helps you structure your professional development program for maximum benefit to you.
