Adobe Photoshop, Introduction

This course introduces beginners to the basics of Photoshop, the industry standard for the creation, enhancement and manipulation of digital images. This powerful application is used by casual and professional photographers, graphic designers for print and web, business professionals looking to give their presentations an extra edge, artists and anybody who enjoys visual creation.

The instructional format provides room for exploration and discovery through lecture, demonstration, hands-on computer work and troubleshooting in a lab setting. Students are introduced to the Photoshop interface and its workflow methodology, tools for making selections, Photoshop Layers, basic color theory, working with type, custom shapes, and joining Photoshop elements to create composite images.

By the end of this course, you will have a good foundation in the use of Photoshop to enhance photographs and create vibrant images for your projects. A final project provides the opportunity to create a piece worthy of inclusion in your digital portfolio.

Course Objectives

  • Discuss important file formats and their uses

  • Discuss Photoshop in terms of color and light, size and resolution

  • Identify tools, selections, options, panels and menus

  • Identify what makes an efficient and organized Layers Panel

  • Join Photoshop elements, layers and selections to create a composite image

  • Skills Needed: Familiarity with the Mac OS environment.

    Materials: Students are required to bring a USB Flash Drive to save any in-class work.
