Program Description

Classroom • Online

Learn project management the Silicon Valley way. We teach project and program managers how to serve as an organization’s pace-setter, so you can steer teams toward efficiency and cost reduction. Learn the theory, tools to manage project plans, mitigate risk, communicate business needs, and lead effectively. You will practice the most in-demand tools of the project management industry—decision-making tools, project integration and risk management, schedule optimization techniques, Lean-Agile project management with Scrum, and negotiation.

Project and Program Management certificate program objectives:

·    Assess and mitigate project risks

·    Master management models such as Extreme Project Management, the Flexible Project Model, Adaptive Project Framework, and Scrum

·    Create and manage a successful team

·    Analyze data to make informed business decisions

·    Sit for the PMP® exam

·    Apply for the internationally recognized Master Project Manager® credential

Total Required: 7 courses/15–17 units. Take 4 core courses (10.5 units) and 3 elective credit courses (4.5–6.5 units)

Time Commitment: A full-time student can complete the certificate in 6–12 months.

Program Chair

FRANK M. MANGINI

FRANK M. MANGINI, M.S.E.E., M.B.A., PMP®, PMI-ACP®, CSP, has over 25 years’ experience in project management and product development and served as the director of programs for ARGOSystems/Boeing Electronic Defense Systems. As senior programs manager and director of programs, he led multi-year programs that developed and produced shipboard and submarine electronic detection and protection systems for domestic and international naval forces. He has also been involved in commercial consulting and startup enterprises including the development and production of online sports training systems.  Mangini is a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He has also been a member of Toastmasters International since 2006 and has achieved the competence levels of Advanced Communicator Bronze and Advanced Leader Bronze. He has taught project management courses for the UCSC Extension since 2002. He teaches classroom, online and on-site corporate training courses for the Project and Program Management certificate program. His special interests are project risk management, critical chain project management and Agile-Lean development projects.
