Course Description:
This is truly a great time to be a photographer! Digital photography is arguably the biggest development in photography since the invention of roll film, and the introduction of the affordable digital SLR now opens up high-end digital photography to the average photographer.
Join the co-author of Real World Digital Photography for a class designed to help you get the most from your digital SLR and take your photography and image-processing skills to a new level. Working with cameras in the field and later working on the computer, using Adobe Photoshop, this course covers both digital exposure techniques and select digital-darkroom procedures that will transform the way you approach digital image-making. Topics include understanding the camera's histogram feature; exposure compensation for highlight control; white balance; multiple exposures for increased contrast control, depth of field and panoramas; working with RAW files for maximum control; using Adobe Camera RAW; image-optimization techniques in Photoshop CS; combining exposures in the computer for increased dynamic range; flexible "dodge and burn" techniques; improving the look of portraits; color management; image-archiving strategies; and digital asset-management software.
Note(s):
This workshop is designed for photographers who are using a digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera that can shoot RAW files. If you are using a compact digital camera and want to take the course to determine whether to upgrade to a digital SLR, you are welcome to do so, as long as you realize that the course is geared toward SLR users. Some previous experience with Adobe Photoshop is also recommended. Though we will be using Photoshop for only half the course, this is not a beginning Photoshop course.
