Tuition Assistance
Displaced or disadvantaged workers may be eligible for federal assistance through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) or the Employment Development Department (EDD). For students who qualify, funds may be applied toward the cost of the Extension course fees, books, and materials. For additional information or to determine eligibility, contact either your local Workforce Investment Board or Extension's coordinator at wib@ucsc-extension.edu. Funding eligibility must be determined prior to enrolling or participating in any course.

Process for Student
Follow these easy steps to learn about UCSC Extension's WIA eligible programs and application procedures or contact our coordinator at wib@ucsc-extension.edu.
  1. Choose UCSC Extension certificate program available for WIB funding. (Be sure to contact the appropriate department staff for any questions about this certificate program.) General questions to 1-800-660-8639.
  2. Shop the local WIB agencies for available funding for your training plan. Meet with Case Manager and obtain approval for UCSC Extension training program listed on the ETPL at http://etpl.edd.ca.gov/wiaetplind.htm

    While you are waiting for your *payment voucher to be prepared...

  3. a. Meet with UCSC Extension Department Contact person in charge of your selected certificate program to set up your Program Schedule & Initial Enrollment.
  4. b. Take your Program Schedule & Initial Enrollment forms to your Case Manager for approval and submission to Student Services with your *approved payment voucher.

  5. Enroll in classes at the beginning of each season's catalog release by submitting a WIB Enrollment form to Student Services. Be sure to enroll early to assure space availability and Early Enrollment Discount price.
  6. Any class substitutions or changes to your originally approved Program Schedule must be received by Student Services in writing at least 7 days before the start date of the class you are enrolled in and must be approved by UCSC Extension Department Staff as well as by your Case Manager. Please be sure to review all UCSC Extension policies and procedures on this site and in our current catalog.
