The Institute for Humanities Research (IHR) at UCSC, founded in 1999, provides time, space, and support to foster the cutting-edge research work of UCSC's faculty and students. To help make that research available to the broader community of teachers, the IHR's new Teacher Scholar program offers content-based seminars on current humanities scholarship to teachers. The seminars, conducted by UCSC professors, provide teachers with an opportunity to encounter and reflect on contemporary research in ways designed to enhance their teaching. Seminar sessions are held on two days, two weeks apart. There is no charge to teachers; lunch is provided. Participants have the option of receiving one credit from UCSC Extension; the fee for credit is $55. Enrollment is limited to 20 per session. This program is conducted in partnership with the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, Salinas Union High School District, and UCSC Extension.

The Making of the Western Mind
The Making of the Western Mind course series is a presentation of University of California Extension, Santa Cruz, and the Institute for the Study of Western Civilization.
