Sunnyvale Lab Center

Laboratory 106
This laboratory, which is equipped with 24 Sun Blade 100 desktop systems, provides an infrastructure in which UNIX System Administration can be taught with full administrative privileges. The student desktop units are fully reconfigured nightly using Sun’s Jumpstart software. It is possible to load various operating systems by selection from the Jumpstart parameter list, but currently only Solaris 9 is available.

Laboratory 107--Cisco Internetworking Design Lab
This laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art Cisco network appliances on a network backbone. Current levels of Cisco IOS are installed. Interface to the network equipment is provided by 20 student systems. These systems are equipped with the software required to provide students with experience involving configuration of the Cisco equipment that they would find in many Silicon Valley organizations. In addition, the student systems are equipped with the same software installed in all other laboratories.

Laboratory 108: 26 Student Systems
Laboratory 109: 26 Student Systems
These identical laboratories are equipped with 26 Sunray X terminals that are designed to support UNIX-based electronic-design and UNIX skills courses. The thin-client Sunray X terminals attached to Sun Enterprise Servers using Solaris 9.0 can be used to launch login sessions on any UNIX or Linux server made available for student use. Currently, this includes machines providing UNIX shell access and EDA tools.

Cupertino

Laboratory 121 (Macintosh Lab)
Our newly updated Macintosh lab now boasts cutting-edge workstations for 20 students. Each workstation has a Mac Pro with Dual -Core Intel processors, 20-inch flat-panel Apple cinema display and high-speed Internet access. Each workstation is fully loaded with professional software, including Adobe CS3.

In addition to state-of-the-art workstations, we will offer unique certification courses. Apple will be conducting certified training in various applications, including Apple Aperture and Final Cut Pro.

This laboratory also houses dual overhead projectors, giving instructors the ability to teach on two screens at once, thus enhancing the power and value of class presentations.

Laboratory 131: 21 Student Systems
Laboratory 139: 38 Student Systems
Laboratory 216: 21 Student Systems
The personal computer systems installed in these laboratories are equipped with current versions of software required for all classes scheduled here. The software includes a portfolio of business, design, programming, database and tool systems. The software includes titles most commonly found in Silicon Valley organizations.

Open Labs
Each of the UCSC Extension Silicon Valley facilities provides open labs where students may complete homework assignments using equipment and software that is equivalent to those in the laboratories.
