CTEL Program Information
Important! CLAD & CTEL Certification Changes
Recently, the CCTC adopted new Standards of Quality and Effectiveness for California Teachers of English Learners. Specifically, as of February1, 2008, the CCTC requires teachers to be certified under its new CTEL competency guidelines. As a result, UCSC Extension’s Cross Cultural, Language & Academic Development (CLAD) Certification coursework is no longer offered. In fact, the deadline to apply for the CLAD Certificate with the CCTC ended January 31, 2008.
UCSC Extension is currently in the process of implementing the new CCTC CTEL requirements, and is planning to begin offering CTEL classes in the Winter of 2009, pending approval from the CCTC.
CLAD Certificates will continue to be valid for individuals who hold those documents. Therefore, it is not necessary for holders of the CLAD Certificate to obtain a new CTEL Certificate. For more information, go to www.ctc.ca.gov. |
