FAQ passwords

How do I get a username and password (web account)

NEW STUDENTS
If you do not have a student number and password, one will be assigned to you with your first enrollment. Your student number is your user name. You can change your student number to a user name that you can easily remember by coming back to this portal, logging in, and following directions. Please store your user name and  password where you can locate it for future logon to the site. Creating a new profile each time you log on creates multiple records and will make it difficult to access your academic history.

FAQ Grades

How long does it take to receive my grade?
Grades are generally processed within a month after the course end date. The grades are updated to your online student record and mailed on the same day.

Education course grades normally process within three weeks. These instructors are aware of student time constraints

How do I receive my grade?
An official grade report will be mailed to your home address. (We have found that mailing to a work address is problematic.) The grade is not official if the instructor verbally tells you or emails the grade. You can also view your grades online. We can not  email or fax a grade.

FAQ Certificates

What are Extension certificates?
Certificates were created specifically for career development. A certificate is a university-level program that offers academic credit, but does not lead to a degree. By meeting the academic standards of the University of California, UCSC Extension Certificates are highly valued by employers and prized by the professionals who earn them.

Will I benefit from a certificate?
Many certificates are designed for working professionals who already have a degree but want to ensure their skills and knowledge are current. They are also suited to professionals who have work experience in their chosen field but do not have a related degree and individuals who want to transition from one field to another.

When should I enroll?
You can apply at any time. We recommend you do so early in order to keep abreast of course and program developments. Applying early will also allow program support to better assist you in course scheduling and selection. Applicants should contact their program representative again upon completion of their final course.

FAQ How to Order a Transcript

The following information is provided as a guide to the process of ordering a transcript of your University Extension course work.

1. Provide your full name and address and daytime phone number. Providing your Social Security Number (voluntary and kept confidential, for record identification only) will assist the process.

2. If different from your current name, please provide your name as it appears on our records.

3. Indicate whether you want the transcript sent now showing all graded courses to date or held until a specific course or courses have been graded. If requesting a hold for grades, please indicate the specific course(es) to hold for.

4. If your work was Open University (Concurrent Enrollment), please indicate if you wish to have any narrative evaluations sent, if they are on file at University Extension.

5. Indicate the number of copies you are requesting. Fees: $10 per copy; $10 for each additional copy ordered and sent at the same time. Payment is by credit card only.

FAQ Transcripts

What is the difference between an official grade report and an official transcript
An official transcript is a full listing on one document of all the coursework you have completed while a student at UCSC Extension including department codes, academic course numbers, titles, duration dates, units/continuing education units, grades and certificates earned. UCSC Extension transcripts do not list a GPA. There is a fee for official transcripts and a written request must be received from the student. Click here to order transcripts.

FAQ Refunds and Transfers

How do I drop a course? Am I eligible for a refund

Refund Policy
A $40 processing fee will be withheld for each course section withdrawal on all refund transactions. All refund requests made by students must be received online or in writing at least seven calendar days before a class begins. If we do not receive the request in that time period, no refund will be granted.
Only course tuition fees are refundable. Registration fees, certificate and special requests are non-refundable. Some UCSC Extension programs require more advanced notice for refunds and a larger amount is forfeited when a refund is granted.
