UCSC Extension in Silicon Valley is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Colleges and Universities (WASC) through the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Articulation Agreements

Studying at Extension is a great next step, even if a Masters degree is your ultimate goal. UCSC Extension has credit transfer agreements for advanced study in the fields of:

Accounting, Business Administration, Project and Program Management, and Teaching English as a Second Language.

ACCOUNTING

Several UCSC Extension courses are recognized by the UCSC Economics Department and may be used to waive the designated UCSC economics courses.

UCSC Extension Accounting Courses

Qualify for waiver of the following UCSC Courses

  • 10A, Economics of Accounting
  • 10B, Economics of Accounting
  • IS, Introductory Microeconomics: Resource Allocation and Market Structure
  • IS, Introductory Macroeconomics: Aggregate Economic Activity

MBA 

The Business and Management Department of UCSC Extension offers courses that may meet requirements for M.B.A. program admission. These courses give students the opportunity to fulfill some of the prerequisites necessary to begin an M.B.A. program. If you are applying to a university for an M.B.A., be sure to inquire about requirements and prerequisites.

The following courses may meet undergraduate prerequisite requirements for pre-M.B.A. programs at the universities listed below and at other universities or colleges.

Note: Numbers denote courses from the above list which can transfer. When two or more numbers are listed (N + N), the institution requires completion of two or more UCSC Extension courses to fulfill one requirement.

If you're not sure an M.B.A. program is right for you, UCSC Extension's Business Administration Certificate offers a full range of courses that provide an immediate boost in business-management skills. Courses can be taken individually or used to earn the certificate.

PROJECT AND PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

The Business and Management Department has secured transfer agreements with University of Denver, University College and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. These agreements specifically assist students who have achieved a Project and Program Management Certificate and would like to pursue an Online Master of Science degree.

University of Denver, University College
Before entering the University of Denver, University College's Master's Degree in Technology Management program, the student must complete the UCSC Extension Project and Program Management Certificate with an overall 3.0 grade-point average. Completion of the Extension Certificate equates to 9 graduate credits towards the University of Denver's Master's Degree in Technology Management program. Transferable credits are as follows:

MOTM 4400 Principles of Project Management 3 quarter credits
MOTM 4460 Project Management Tools and Techniques 3 quarter credits
MOTM 4480 Leading Successful Projects 3 quarter credits

 

UW-Platteville
Before entering the UW-Platteville M.S. in Project Management program, the student must complete the UCSC Extension Project and Program Management Certificate with an overall 3.0 grade-point average. Completion of the UCSC Extension Project and Program Management Certificate equates to 9 graduate credits in the UW-Platteville M.S. in Project Management program in the following manner:

PM 7010 Project Management Techniques I 3 semester credits
PM 7020 Project Management Techniques II 3 semester credits
  Project Management Elective 3 semester credits

 

TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

The Education Department at UCSC Extension in Silicon Valley has an articulation agreement with the University of San Francisco whereby Extension's TESL/TESOL Certificate Program will transfer directly into the USF MA TESL degree.

The next group of students to go through this program will start in August 2011 and complete their Master's by the end of July 2011.
