Course Description:

This two-day intensive seminar is built from the ground up for the working entrepreneur. Leading experts from some of Silicon Valley's most successful startups lift the veil from what it's really like to work in this unique and demanding environment. The curriculum presumes participants are intent on growing an idea into an enterprise, and is distinguished in several ways:

  • Focuses on the highly volatile early stages of a company's life
  • Emphasizes the market-driven approach to developing revenue-generating customer relationships
  • Gives visibility into all the key areas of startup operations
  • Prepares participants to deal with partners, professional advisors, and investors
  • Builds participants' confidence that they are equipped to manage the major contingencies they will face

Through a series of 10 highly engaging modules, participants learn the critical issues by which all startups live or die--and which all entrepreneurs must navigate to succeed. Each section is facilitated by a startup professional who is a subject-matter expert with hands on experience inside early-stage Silicon Valley companies. Attorneys who specialize in intellectual property, compliance, securities and employment law co-teach with the lead faculty of selected modules. Key topics:

  • Idea to Incorporation including business model and plan
  • Developing the right products
  • Legal I: Incorporation, capital structure
  • Financing strategies of funding alternatives
  • Assembling, motivating and keeping the core team
  • Managing successfully in the early stage
  • Marketing and sales for competitive differentiation
  • Legal II: Intellectual property and employment law
  • Financial management for startups
  • Impact of Globalization on the startup
