F-1 Visa Application Process
If you are currently abroad:
After we receive your application, we will mail you the acceptance package with an I-20 form so that you may apply for your F-1 student visa. Please note that all I-20 forms are sent by U.S. airmail unless you request that we send it by express mail. There is a fee of $75 for express mail packages.
After you receive the I-20 form you must pay the SEVIS fee through the Web site www.fmjfee.com. Then, contact the nearest U.S. embassy to apply for the F-1 student visa. You will need to schedule an appointment for your visa interview. We will send you detailed instructions to help you prepare for the visa interview.
If you are currently in the U.S. on an F-1 Visa:
If you are currently attending another school on an F-1 student visa and wish to transfer to a UCSC Extension program, simply complete our application. We will send a transfer form with your acceptance package. Both you and the international student advisor from your previous school will complete sections of this form, and then submit it to our office.
If you are currently in the U.S., but not on an F-1 Visa:
If you are in the United States with a B1/B2 or F-2 visa and are interested in studying full-time at an American college or university, you cannot begin your studies until you file a change of status with the U.S. Customs and Immigration Service (USCIS) and the change of status has been approved.
If you are in the United States on another visa type that allows you to study, you may enroll in our courses as if you are a domestic student. Please note that it is your responsibility to research your visa requirements and maintain your visa status. You may enroll online at http://www.ucsc-extension.edu/enroll.
If you are in H-1B status and need to file a change of status application, please contact us as soon as possible and we will assist you.
