Customer-focused project management
Jumpstart your career for today's rapidly changing organizations with a specialization in Lean-Agile project management methodologies. In this short specialization program, you will learn the current knowledge and practices of Agile product life-cycle management (APLM), including Lean-Agile principles, systems thinking, Scrum and Kanban methodologies, and the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe©) for Lean Enterprises.
Your new knowledge and skills—including effective customer collaboration, adaptive planning, and leading cross-function teams—will be the essential elements for implementing shorter iterative development cycles with more frequent product releases with higher quality for delighted customers.

- Apply Lean-Agile principles and mindful practices within the context of the project team and the larger organization;
- Originate and evolve iterative release plans, from concept to cash, based on rapid delivery of business value, using stakeholder collaboration, and empowered cross-functional teams practicing real-time continuous improvement; and

Program Chair
FRANK M. MANGINI, M.S.E.E., M.B.A., PMP®, PMI-ACP®, CSP, has over 25 years of experience in project management and product development and served as the director of programs for ARGOSystems/Boeing Electronic Defense Systems. As senior programs manager and director of programs, he led multi-year programs that developed and produced shipboard and submarine electronic detection and protection systems for domestic and international naval forces. He has also been involved in commercial consulting and startup enterprises including the development and production of online sports training systems. Mangini is a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He has also been a member of Toastmasters International since 2006 and has achieved the competence levels of Advanced Communicator Bronze and Advanced Leader Bronze. He has taught project management courses for the UCSC Extension since 2002. He teaches classroom, online, and on-site corporate training courses for the Project and Program Management certificate program. His special interests are project risk management, critical chain project management, and Agile-Lean development projects.

Who should establish candidacy?
- People who are pursuing a certificate (and have enrolled in a course in the program).
- People who want to lock in the current requirements of a certificate or specialization.
4 Simple Steps to a Certificate or Specialization
- Complete a course in your selected program.
- Establish candidacy. Click on the Establish Candidacy button on your program page.
- Take all required courses for certificate completion.
- Once your grades are posted on your final course, enroll in the certificate review fee.
A Benefit of Establishing Candidacy
Program requirements may change. Once you commit to a program by establish your candidacy, you will not have to change your plans to meet new requirements. They are locked in for you. Timeline: 4 years to get it done (or 3 for a specialization) You must complete all the necessary units in a certificate within a four-year window. The clock begins on the first day of your first course in the certificate program. For example, if you started a course on Sept. 5, 2023, you would have to finish by Sept. 4, 2027.
Note: Establishing candidacy does not trigger the beginning of the four-year window. It begins the first day of the first course in your chosen certificate program. The Certificate Completion Review process does not have to occur within the four-year timeframe.
Exceptions to the four-year requirement
- If you Established candidacy prior to Jan. 1, 2024, you will have five years to complete a program.
- Students participating in a special program, such as workforce, international, or our curriculum partner programs, such as the Legal Studies courses (CLS by Barbri) and sales and business courses (Ziplines Education) have shorter completion requirements.
